Florida Trip 2021 – Day 1 – Sunday – Travel Day

Sunday was a very long day for me. I went two hours north on Thursday to setup for a youth trip, then ran the retreat on Friday and Saturday. After the last session at 7:30pm, I tore down, packed up and drove back to Des Moines arriving at about 12:30am. My alarm was set for 4:00am Sunday morning. Thankfully one of my volunteers offered to run two of our services so I was able to leave church early to get all packed up. It gave us just enough time and even with the 3-4” of snow that morning, we made it to the airport on time.

The kids have only been to the airport to drop of and pick up people, mostly me, so this was all new to them! We checked in and dropped off our checked bags and headed for security. They wanted a picture here because they said they came here a lot and never got to go past this point.

After security we just had to buy something from the over priced stores and tour the airport.

The plane ride was mostly normal. Take off was a bit rough and Braxton was about to get sick. Many of us took motion sickness medicine but not Braxton. They mostly ate snacks and played on technology. This was the first time they’ve seen cities from this height. The landing was the best landing I’ve ever experienced.

After landing we got off the plane outside! It was a very small airport. While waiting for our luggage, Aunt Devin came in! Then the kids just had to touch their very first palm tree! This one was a baby palm tree they said.

After a short ride, we went to bed right away but definitely didn’t fall asleep right away!
