I’m tired. I think Sundays are the most draining of all days for me. Isn’t Sunday supposed to be a day of rest? So I’m at home now, sitting back, relaxing, listening to 90′s T.L.C., update’n my blog with my pocket pc and bluetooth cell phone. I think I’m gonna take part of tomorrow off and work on my house. It still needs some work. I’ve got my stereo and everything hooked up and it sounds great…

…ok I’m finally in bed snuggling with my wife. Goodnight.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is basically a great way to send presents to children overseas. My wife and I participated this year at work and sent 2 shoe boxes full of small gifts. Here is an email from the famliy including pictures!

Hello from Almaty!
Hi, Douglas and Brooke

My name is Olga. My husband Askar and I are glad to hear from you and we would like to thank you for presents. Our kids were so happy to receive the box you sent.
Our children, a boy is 9 and a girl is 3, are only learning to be good kids. Their names are Adil and Anelya. In fact, we have recently learnt the God and we see how our lives have changed since the time God touched our hearts. We try to read the Bible (we even have got one in English) but still we have so many questions.
We live in the city surrounded by the mountains. It is a beautiful place. We like to spend our free time in the nature. In winter we skate in our famous skating rink Medeu (you might have heard of it). In summer we spend time near the river.
We go to the church on Sundays.
Our life has not been easy but we believe in God and it is getting better and better every day and we are glad there are people who realize the same.
We see that God loves us and God prepared everything for us. We see that our children also realize that.

We would like to thank you once again for your kindness in the name of God.
We hope to hear from you again soon.

Ready.gov is a great website and something we all need to think about. I think of the hurrican victims and what they would do for just one of the items on the lists available from this website. I think there are many vulnerable systems in the US that we depend on that can easily be shut down either by terrorism or weather or anything.

1. Power system
2. Fuel supply
3. Phone communications
4. Internet
5. Airlines

I’m sure there are more but you get the idea. I talk about these things with my wife and family and they all think I’m nuts. But seriously, why is everyone so dependent on these things. Go back about 100 years ago and no one depended on these things, but we act as if they are all absolutes and will never fail. We’ve seen power grids go down on the east coast in recent years, The airlines were down for a few days after Sept 11th and it stopped everything. Fuel shortages in the 70′s and recently with the hurricanes shows it is possible. Problems were drastically worsened Sept 11th and Hurricane Katrina due to no communications including radio and cell towers. Power alone would shut down all 4 of the other systems. I know, I know, so what, call me crazy, but how would you like to be in Hurricane Katrina without simple things such as food or water. Ok, so I’ve made my point. So check out the website:
